Looking For University Of Minnesota Housing Off Campus

By William Hamilton

When a student is accepted by a university to further their education, many will have to leave their family home and find student accommodation. A lot of universities have student blocks on site but the places are limited and tend to fill up quickly. If you are looking for university of minnesota housing off campus there are a few things to consider and a little research to be done.

Before you begin your search and make any decisions you should take a look at your personal finances and work out how much money you will have each month. Renting a one bedroom place will cost around 600 dollars per calendar month. A 3 bed property will come in at approximately 1500 but this will not include your electricity and water charges. Most will be part furnished with some basic appliances so check this before making your final choice.

The best place to start your search for a place to live is at your university. Most will have advertising areas displaying details of properties that are available for you to rent. It can also be worth chatting with friends and fellow students to see if they can assist with your search and answer any queries you may have.

Leaving home can often be a daunting experience and a lot of students struggle to manage their finances in the beginning. A simple way to cut down on costs is to split all of the bills by taking in a fellow student or a friend. By doing this all household expenditure can be equally shared by the occupying tenants and this can take away some of the financial pressures.

When you take on a property is it important to think about what you need after you have moved in. Many of the flats will only be part furnished so you will need to buy extra pieces to make it comfortable. Also bear in mind that as well as the initial months rent, most agents will ask for a damage deposit, which will be refunded at the end of your tenancy if everything is in order.

Many of the larger sites that cater for students will have extra facilities for their tenants to use. Fitness centers, swimming pools and study areas are offered and free WiFi is becoming the norm. Other useful facilities such as cafes and bars maybe on site but these will not be included in with your rent.

The large complexes that have apartments are usually nearby the university and this is a big advantage. It can save students a substantial amount of money by taking away the need to use public transport. In many areas free transfers are provided to and from the campus and these are free of charge which also helps to save a few dollars.

As well as the financial side of things it is worth taking time to think about how long you will stay in the property. Most agents will expect you to sign a six or twelve month contract or longer. It can often be financially better to sign a long term agreement as it can bring down the cost if you pay all of the rent in advance.
